Megan Smith is Excited for First U.S. Nationals

Megan Smith and the Hartman Smith Race Team are set to make their first Dodge//SRT NHRA U.S. Nationals appearance this weekend in Indianapolis. Megan will be driving the Hartman Smith Racing A/Fuel Dragster with the help of Hartman Enterprises, Paul Smith Racing, and Lucas Oil.

The team is looking to build on their progression as this is just the fourth event Megan has entered. She made her Top Alcohol Dragster debut at the Lucas Oil NHRA Southern Nationals earlier this year qualifying 10th and followed that up with a career-best run in Charlotte at the 4-wide event. The team then went to Norwalk for the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals where they failed to make the field.

“I’m really happy with our progress this year,” Megan says, “especially when I look back at where the car’s performance was at the beginning of this year. We’ve been able to improve every outing minus Norwalk where we ran into some mechanical gremlins but that’s just a part of racing. I’m super excited to see what the car will run in Indy after we made some clutch adjustments and saw major incremental improvements after a promising test session at Rockingham Dragway. My dad, Crew Chief John “Bodie” Smith, has been able to chip away at this thing and get it to run some good numbers.”

Megan and the team will need a strong showing as the world’s biggest drag race will bring in 22 of the best Top Alcohol Dragsters looking to qualify for a 16-car field.
